Emulsions

EminTech has developed/ scaled up/ transferred to production more than 20 emulsions.

An O/W (oil in water) emulsion at magnification x1000.

That weak flocculation (oil droplets weakly adhere to each other), seen in the image above, may enhance emulsion stability was observed in a research project studying 32 emulsions by Ann Maliniak and Paul Persson (1990).

In the project emulsion stability, viscosity and oil droplet diameter were analysed using factorial analysis. The seven factors varied, together with their levels, are shown below.

Dispersions

A dispersion contains crystalline material in a vehicle like gel or emulsion.

A challenge in developing dispersions is to avoid crystal growth during storage of the finished product. This is generally avoided by use of surface active agents.

Gels

Polymer gels give vehicles with great stability that are relatively simple to produce.

Microemulsions

An apparently transparent microemulsion diffracts a laser beam.

In a microemulsion the aggregate's sizes are comparable to the wavelength of light.

The formulations therefore appear transparent to the naked eye but they clearly diffract laser light.

Microemulsions are normally stable, provided that the components are not degraded or will undergo other reactions during storage.
